Indigenous Education and Cultural Services

UOIT is committed to supporting all learners. 

Indigenous Education and Cultural Services provides specialized services to First Nation, Métis and Inuit students as well as all UOIT students wanting to learn more about Indigenous cultures. Our programs and services are designed to support a successful transition to post-secondary education and help students have the best possible experience at UOIT.

Services provided:

Academic Indigenous resources for students, staff and faculty. 

  • Access to Visiting Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers. 
  • Advocacy, advising and referrals.
  • Connections to the Indigenous community.
  • Counselling and traditional supports.
  • Cultural advising for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, staff and faculty.
  • Cultural food days. 
  • Curriculum assistance on Indigenous content.
  • Fully functional kitchen for student use. 
  • Inclusive monthly programing including traditional ceremonies and cultural workshops.
  • Recruitment and admissions support for Indigenous students.
  • Welcoming study space.

The UOIT-Baagwating Indigenous Student Centre is located at 151 Athol Street at our downtown location (behind 61 Charles).  An Indigenous student space is also available for student use in the U5 building at our North location.

Indigenous Education Advisory Circle

The Indigenous Education Advisory Circle provides guidance to the university on its current goals for Aboriginal student enrolment, retention and support, and to enhance and celebrate Aboriginal cultures and ways of knowing.
