Learning strategy tips

Keeping track of important dates and deadlines will help you to be successful in your university studies. Using a schedule will give you a visual picture of your work, identify your crunch times and help you to spread out the workload.

Create a to-do list and prioritize the items beginning with the most important items and working through those that are less important.

Fill in your must-do items first such as time in class, study time (course readings, assignments and review), and schedule in leisure time. Be realistic so that you will stick to your schedule. Try the UOIT weekly time management calendar.

Keep track of all midterms, assignments, presentations and final exams. This overview will help you keep on top of your workload by allowing you to see how much work is building up and where the crunch times will be. Try planning for a month using the UOIT long-term planner.

  • Start assignments as soon as you get them.
  • Divide tasks into small, manageable steps.
  • Tackle the most difficult tasks when you are at your best.
  • Use your time wisely – make it count.
  • Don’t procrastinate.
